About K. J. Gunzelman
The Journey of K. J. Gunzelman
K. J. Gunzelman was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, the son of a career Army noncommissioned officer. His childhood was shaped by military life, spending much of his youth at various Army posts throughout Germany. Those early experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for service, discipline, and global perspective.
After four years at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Gunzelman was commissioned as an armor officer. Over the next twenty-seven years, he served in numerous command and staff positions both in Germany and across the United States, building a distinguished career in military leadership.
Just prior to retiring with the rank of colonel, he completed his engineering doctorate at the University of Wisconsin. He then spent the next decade working in research, development, and acquisition programs for both government and civilian organizations. Many of the technical concepts incorporated into his fiction are inspired by ideas developed during his time working with DARPA.
Writing and Publications
In addition to his military and technical career, Gunzelman has written extensively for military and professional technical journals. His writing reflects both his deep technical expertise and his lifelong interest in leadership, strategy, and innovation.
While much of his professional work has been non-fiction, storytelling has always been a passion. His fiction blends real-world experience with imaginative narrative, bringing authenticity and depth to his characters and plots.
